About the Founder

Gary Milner, the driving force behind Hobson Consulting, holds a BSc Honours Degree in Materials Technology. Gary began his career as a Laboratory Manager specialising in metallurgy and failure analysis for the offshore industry in 1988, transitioning to corrosion engineering in Aberdeen UK, both onshore in 1990 and offshore in 1991, seeing his first ROV on the Snorre field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

Over the next decade, he worked worldwide as an Offshore Corrosion Engineer, with many ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) systems and survey companies and Oil and Gas Operators. He established and developed a Malaysian branch office and company for his UK employer in 1998 and his expertise led him to middle management roles, where he served as Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, Project Manager, and in Business Development, all with a strong HSE bias where he was Regional HSE Representative for Oceaneering Asia Pacific

In 2017, Gary returned to contracting, working as an ROV Pilot Tech, and eventually becoming an Offshore Vessel Manager and Client Site Representative, specialising in Oil and Gas ROV IRM and telecommunications cable PLIB, installation, and repair worldwide.
